Eating White Rice Increases Risk of Diabetes

Eat white rice could increase the risk of type 2 diabetes. These results were obtained from review by the four studies involving 350 thousand respondents. These four studies conducted in China, Japan and the United States and Australia.

From the results of the study, Asians tend to have a much higher intake than the food of the West, average 3-4 servings a day compared with one or two servings per week. Asian men who eat plenty of rice, according to researcher, Dr. Qi Sun, fromthe Harvard Schoolof Public Health, Boston, USA, also possess greater risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

Why is white rice could further increase the risk of type 2 diabetes? Because the effects of white rice on blood sugar levels, namely on the glycemic index (GI), is relatively high. The glycemic index is a measure of how quickly glucose is released into the bloodstream after eating.

Low GI foods breakdown slowly like brown rice, which makes people feel full longer and keeps blood sugar levels more stable. Red rice, meaning better to avoid the consumption of type 2 diabetes.
