Backpack loaded with school books cause severe back pain, according to a study conducted in Spain. Conclusion of a study published in the journal Archives of Disease in Childhood, said many students carrying a backpack with excessive charges.
The conclusion was drawn by a study of 1403 school children at the Hospital da Costa in Burela and University Hospital Son Dureta in Palma. The average child aged 12 to 17 years from 11 schools in northern Spain. The author reports say children should not carry the load exceeds 10% of their body weight.
In that study nearly two thirds of students carrying a bag that violates the rules 10% of body weight. Heavy bags are then analyzed related to back pain. Those who experience back pain at least 15 days in a year measured weight in their bags. The children were divided into four groups based on their bag loads. Those with the heaviest bag will be 50% chance of experiencing back pain than those with the lightest bag. The report also says that women experience more problems and increases with increasing age.
